Energy Rooted in the Community

icon-community.pngThe importance of the community to our success cannot be overemphasised.  The company's roots in a largely agricultural region of Southern Virginia that has been economically devastated by the slow erosion of private agriculture and the disappearance of the traditional industries on which our rural economy was built.

Piedmont BioProducts was conceived as a way of addressing these critical economic issues while tackling two of our most challenging national issues: dependence on foreign non-renewable energy, and the environmental impact of our energy usage.

The cycle for producing our BIO-Crude begins in the community.  Feedstocks - which are the plants and trees that we use as the raw materials for the refining process - are grown by cooperative organizations made up of Farmers.  These Co-Ops have a share in our company, and share in our profits.

The types of Feedstocks grown vary depending on geographic location and factors such as soil condition.  The Feedstocks are harvested using corn harvesting equipment, leaving in tact the root system of the plant - from which the renewable Feedstock will regrow for future harvest.
